What is BOAS?

BOAS = Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome

When selective breeding ‘squished’ the skulls of flat faced dogs the soft tissues that have to fit in the skull (brain, eyes, airways, tongue) did not become equally ‘squished’. So now these dogs have to fit tfhe same amount of stuff into a much smaller space. This means less room to breathe, higher pressures needed to overcome the resistance to breathing (and hence noise associated with breathing) and eventually collapse of the airways.
